Science Note: Why Zebra Mussels Stick So Well To Surfaces

Zebra mussels, a justifiably demonized invasive species, have had their super sticky secret discovered by researchers at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Understanding the chemistry that allows those mussels to stick so well to surfaces in water bodies has helped inventors to design new types of effective adhesives for medical and industrial applications.

Knowing that mussels are not just your average stick-on should motivate boaters to work even harder to Clean Drain and Dry their equipment because if mussels are there, they really know how to stick to it.
